What is  Custom Compounding
Compounding is the art and science of combining, mixing or altering the ingredients of a drug to produce medicine tailor-made to meet the needs of an individual patient.
The practice is usually conducted by licensed pharmacists and doctors or under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist in the case of a third party facility.
Compounding- an ancient practice
The practice of compounding prescriptions is not a new phenomenon. As a fact, it was the prevailing method of dispensing medicine before the advent of large-scale production of drugs in the 1950s and 1960s.
The need for compounding
  • The general approach to providing medications as approved by the FDA has a flaw- it fails to meet the specific needs of some patients
  • When a patient has an allergy to a constituent of available readymade drugs
  • When patients find it difficult to swallow a medication in its available form thus the need for a pharmacist to prepare an alternate form that will be easier for the patient to take
  • To provide a patient with medication that is commercially discontinued or unavailable.
  • To provide a patient with medication that is commercially discontinued or unavailable.
  • If the need arises to provide medicine to a patient in dosage strengths that is unavailable commercially
At Fitzgerald’s pharmacy, we’ve taken this age-long tradition and brought it to life with modern technology and approach to deliver customized prescription and wellness solutions only for your needs.
